UPSC CAPF Syllabus
How to crack UPSC CAPF:
CAPF(AC) exam is conducted in three phases.
Phase I: Written examination
- It consists of two papers. Paper I is Objective type which has General Studies syllabus which carries 250 marks. Paper II is descriptive in nature and it carried 200 marks.
- This is important phase as you have defined syllabus and your hard work can give you better returns as this domain is predictable and practice based.
1 ) For Paper I :
- one must read selected NCERTS and one additional book for each subject. Eg Laxmikant for Polity or Spectrum for Modern History. Special focus has to be given to science and aptitude based questions which carries around 30 to 35 marks.
- Equally if not more important is solving practice tests to maximize the score in Paper I. Past year question papers act as compass for preparation strategy.
2) For Paper II :
- The best part is format of question paper is fixed. Essays, Argument writing, precis writing etc can be scoring if you practice them regularly.
All The UPSC CAPF Preparation Books Are Listed Below You Can check Them all and see which book help you more in your upsc capf syllabus preparation.
You can find abundant videos on YouTube which will provide you resource list and guidance for Paper II.
Phase II: Physical Efficiency Test and Medical Fitness Test
- Once the result of first phase is declared, number of candidates which is approximately 6 six times the number of vacancies are called for PET and medical tests.
- This is the important phase where CAPF exam is different as compared to civil services exam.
This phase is only qualifying in nature. Though marks of this phase are not added in final merit list, physical test should not be underestimated.
Long jump of 3.5 meters for Men or 3 meters for women is not a cakewalk. It requires at least 2 months of dedicated efforts. Candidate is advised to regularly practice and avoid any injury during the preparation of PET.
For Medical Fitness, weight, blood pressure, colour-blindness etc are tested on the same day of PET or next day.
Phase III: Personality Test
- Personality test or interview of the candidates who pass Physical and Medical tests is conducted by Union Public Service Commission board. They are approximately 3 times the number of vacancies of the year.
- Personality test of CAPF carries 150 marks which is 25% of the total marks of CAPF exam. This is test of values of the candidates which are desirable for a leadership position for which the exam is conducted.
- Preparation of CAPF exam is a process of physical as well as mental development. In order to become a versatile leader one has to go through this arduous process. But the reason for such selection process is simple. From Day 1 of the service, fate of hundreds of men and their families is tied to your decisions.
There certain areas that you need to focus to get good marks in interview. These are as follows:
DAF:
- Very important w.r.t to upsc interview. Almost 60–70% may come from DAF.
- You should be thorough with every thing in your DAF for eg- meaning of your name, any important of your place, father’s job, some information about your states, your interest and hobbies.
- All these things may be asked.
- Preference- question will come from your preference. Which force you have given first preference and to which you have given Last and.
- You need to justify that so that they really feel that you want to join CAPF. If CISF then why CISF? Prepare a very good answer and deliver that answer with atmost enthusiasm.
- So that they feel your josh.
Have good knowledge of your 1st preference. If Bsf 1st choice then when is its raising day, moto of BSF duties, mandate of bsf in gist everything about BSF.
Current affairs– keep prepared current affairs of past 2 months. In interview so many questions are asked form this section.
Internal security- as CAPF are vested with the internal security so questions will come from this section. For internal security ref. book Challenges to Internal Security by Ashok Kumar .
Mainly 3 areas to focus in this book i.e kashmir terrorism, Naxalism and NE insurgency
Prepare some situation reaction test from SSB books.
One must be vigilant about current happenings in the world. Reading newspaper, watching BigPicture of RSTV can be insightful.
Preparation of DAF and personal section of the candidates which consists of hobbies and extra-curricular activities is also important to score good marks in the interview.
Candidate should give mock interviews in order to get comfortable with interview process. If possible give 1 or 2 mock interview. This will help alot.
The process of CAPF preparation is a journey of thousand miles through rough and rocky terrain but all that is worth it for the shining stars on one’s shoulders- and a lifetime experience.
